How to setup a high quality Local Committee website in 60 minutes

Please make sure you have the right permissions in myaiesec.net before you start. This tutorial is aimed at Presidents and EB's of local committees.This tutorial is made with permissions of a user who is an EB of AI->Asia Pacific->India->AIESEC Ahmedabad .Please replace with your respective GN ,Country and LC wherever applicable.

 

Section 1 :Getting started with the Web Publishing System(WPS)

Step 1:Logon to myaiesec.net   1 min
Step 2:Click on the Web Publishing Link on the left bottom 30 seconds
Step 3:Click on the Web publishing Link on the right menu 30 seconds
Step 4:A separate window will open (If you have a pop up blocker you might have to click reopen window)

Step 5:After the new window opens select your LC from the drop drown menu labeled "Project"

Navigate to your LC folder ( AI->GN->Country->LC )(1 minute)   1 minute
You  should now have this window open.

 

 

Total time so far 4 minutes

 

Section 2 :What can  I customize

1 - Your LC contact details

2 - The Tabs on your LC website

3- The sub tabs under each tab

 

 

Section 2.1 : Editing contact details

Step 1:Find the contactus.html file in your LC folder 30 seconds
Step 2:Right Click on the contactus.html and select "Edit Page"

On a Mac:Right-click by holding down the Control key and clicking.

Step 3:Enter your LC Name and contact details

Be careful not to extend the table otherwise it will not fit in the webpage

Step 4:Click on the publish button( yellow and red  arrows) to save and publish your changes

Step 5:Click OK after publishing and you should go back to the WPS

Section 2.2 : Adding a new Tab

Step 1:Click on the "New" Button 30 seconds
Step 2:Select "Folder" and click continue.

Then enter the name of the folder ( ALWAYS all small letters)

Example : projects ,initiatives  etc

Step 3:Enter the title exactly the same as the name ( it can be different but it will cause confusion in the future)

If you tick "Add to Navigation " then this folder becomes a tab. Please tick it .

Navigation text is the name of the Tab( which will be shown in the menu)

Example : if you frolder is called "projects" then your navigation text should be "Projects"

Insert After lets you select where you want to put the new tab

Click Finish

Step 4:You have created a folder.Now you will have to set the properties of the files inside the folder ( index.html) which is automatically created.This will be your first subtab inside your tab.

 

As shown on the right leave all values as they are except the template: change that to "Country page"

Step 5:This is your first subtab .Enter the title,keywords,descriptions.

Tick the box called "Add to Navigation"

Enter the name of the subtab( Usually "Home") in the Navigation Text field.

Click Finish

Repeat this step for as many tabs you have ( a maximum of 5-6 is recommended) and then you will be back in the main workplace shown below.

 

 

Time used so far 13 minutes .

We will add 10 minutes for  creation all your tabs. Therefore time used is 23 minutes

 

 

Section 2.2 : Adding sub Tab

Step 1:Lets assume you have created a tab called "projects".Click on the folder in the work place 30 seconds
Step 2:

You should see the file as shown in the picture.

To add a sub tab click on "New"

Step 3:

Select Page with free text

Step 4:

Enter the name

Choose the template as "Country page"

As shown on the right leave all values as they are except the template: change that to "Country page"

Step 5:

Fillthe title,keywords,description etc.

Tick the "Add to navigation" box .This will make it a sub tab.

Enter the navigastion text.This is what the sub tab will be shown as on the website.For this example we can call it "HIV/AIDS Project" which is a sub tab under the tab "Projects"

Click Finish

Repeat this step for as many  subtabs you have ( a maximum of 5-6 is recommended) and then you will be back in the main workplace shown below.

 

 

Time used so far 30 minutes 30 seconds.

We will add 10 minutes for  creation all your sub tabs. Therefore time used is 40 minutes 30 seconds.

 

Now we have the structure of the website ready .To preview your website click on the index file that is shown in the above picture

 

When you click on index you see the picture below ( along with the other tabs you have added )

 

 

 

Click on the Projects Tab( or any other tab you made ) and you can see sub tabs as shown below

 

 

 

Section 3 : Adding Content

 

Quick Tip:If you are copy pasting your content ;First copy it into a notepad document( for mac users "text edit" )  so that the content loses all its formating .Then paste it onto the WPS.This makes you content get the default formatiing of the WPOs which has been designed to match the style of the new design.

Step 1:The first content to be edited is the main index file.Right click on it and select "Edit Page"

 

After editing click on the "save and exit" button

Step 2:To edit content in tabs ,we should edit the content of the subtabs( this is because the tabs do not have any content by themselves, just a collection of all the subtabs)

 

Right click on the index folder inside the tab folder and click "Edit Page".Here you can add content for the "Home" sub tab.

 

After editing click on the "save and exit" button

Step 3:Add content to he other sub tabs the same way

After editing click on the "save and exit" button

10 minutes
Step 4:

After adding all content click on the level up button until you are outside your LC folder( that means you will be in your country folder)

 

Right click on you LC folder and select publish directly

Time used so far 54 minutes .You can use the remaining time to go through the website and correct any mistakes.

 

And there you have it a local website in 60 minutes.
